The September Birchbox is a very special Birchbox as it’s their 5th birthday – Happy Birchday! As one of the Birchbox bloggers, I received a fabulous little birthday package complete with balloons, paper straws, birthday coasters and lots of confetti that I’m still finding across my house now. To celebrate in style, Birchbox has packed this months box with some excellent items; some I have used before and some that I’ve been dying to try. So, in honour of their 5th birthday, lets have a look at the contents and celebrate.
As usual, the box contains five beauty items and a Birchbox accessory, which ties in well with one of the beauty products. Each product is a luxury sample size and all products hail from the land of America, which is fast becoming my second home right now. All products featured are also available to buy in the Birchbox shop. Not only that, but new subscribers will also receive a 20% code to spend in the Birchbox shop.
The first item that I was excited to see was the Paula’s Choice Skin Perfecting 2% BHA Liquid Exfoliatiant (full size £23.50). I already have a full size version of this exfoliating toner and as a lover of the acid based toners, this is a perfect size to sit in my long haul toiletry bag for when my skin is playing up. After suffering from a bout of adult acne, I used a chemical exfoliant to bring my skin back to life so I totally recommend.
The John Masters Citrus and Neroli Detangler (full size £16) is a product hailing from NYC, and promises to release knots whilst nourishing hair. It can be used as a quick 3 minute treatment or as a leave in conditioner. Whilst writing this post, I am sat here with my hair coated in the detangler and already it is feeling silky smooth. The scent is also delicious and reminds me of lemon cupcakes.
A little treat and one that I was pleased to see was the Benefit POREfessional License to Blot (full size £15.50). I have the full size already so I am happy to have a mini back up for my work handbag. I’ve been using this a lot lately, especially at work and it has really been helping with my make up staying in place and getting rid of oily patches. It’s a perfect size for on the go touch ups, and I love the matt finish that it leaves.
A lipstick lover like myself adores having a new one to try and the Laqa & Co Cheeky Lip Pencil in Humble Brag (full size £17) is one of my favourite items in this months box. A pink that lasts after eating and drinking with a semi matte formula is right up my street. I’m definitely contemplating buying a full size.
The final beauty product comes from Bliss and the Foot Patrol cream (full size £18.50) was the first item from the box that I used. After a long day walking across the Atlantic, I treated myself to some TLC and applied the peppermint and aloe foot cream to my puffy, sore feet before slipping into bed. I woke up to super soft and silky feet and a reduction in dry, cracked skin. It’s love!
The Birchbox accessory comes in the form of the Best Hair Day Birchbrush (£5.99), an egg shaped brush not to dissimilar to the Tangle Teezer. Combined with the John Masters detangler, my hair is like a sheet of golden silk with no knot in sight. It’s a great size to keep in my handbag for a quick comb through during the day and the egg shape makes it an ideal size and shape to get a good firm grip as you work the tangles out. And, slightly off topic of human hair – I’ve found that a tangle teezing brush like this is ideal to use on my fluffy little dog Elsie. She doesn’t mind being brushed as it’s so gentle and great at getting out matted knots.
If you haven’t subscribed yet, the Birchbox monthly subscription package starts at £12.95 per month with six and twelve month plans available. Also, if you use my referral code you can also get £5 worth of points to spend in the Birchbox shop.
