Nothing gets me more excited than a new product launch, so when the invitation to the launch of the ghd Platinum Styler dropped into my inbox, I was more than excited. Unfortunately, work was calling so I had to miss the launch at Selfridges at the Peter Marcus salon. Luckily, the lovely Lucy was on hand for a mid week treat and one on one experience to see what the fuss was all about. I headed down to Selfridges Exchange Sq for some much needed love on my boring, straight hair.
The ghd Platinum Styler is the newest styler to join the ghd collection. I am currently using the Birds of Paradise V styler, which is brilliant for giving my hair soft curls and to smooth down the frizz when wearing my hair straight. The ghd Platinum Styler is a totally different concept and has a brand new design for the ghd family. Just like the Eclipse range of stylers, it still uses tri-zone technology to style the hair without damaging it. What I noticed immediately was just how light the styler when being used on my hair – it was almost like it didn’t even touch it, and just worked its way over the hair easily creating bouncy curls.
The ghd Platinum Styler heats up to 185 degrees, which is the optimum temperature to apply to hair without causing breakage. Not only that, the styler works with your hair to increase shine and to help stop your hair colour from fading. Another new feature of the platinum styler is the unique wishbone hinge that keeps the plates perfectly aligned. If you recall the position of the plates on the older stylers, you may remember how they slightly move out of alignment. The wishbone hinge makes sure that hair is ran through the styler without slipping and giving a much better control over the style you are trying to achieve.
Whilst having my hair styled by the ghd Platinum Styler, Lucy used the ghd Style Curl Hold spray on each section of hair she curled. My curls stayed in for two days without looking dishevelled and a light brush with a paddle brush changed my bouncy curls to loose waves on the third day. I’m so impressed with the new styler and how it performs. It’s a definite winner in my eyes.
For electrical hair products, I will time and time again go back to ghd, for the quality and performance. It’s also nice to hear that ghd are going back to just producing the classic black stylers in the future and limiting the coloured stylers to the Breast Cancer Care stylers only, just like my Birds of Paradise styler. I must admit however, the white ghd Platinum Styler is so gorgeous! So, for my updated shopping list, I need the white ghd Platinum Styler, and I may have to break my current hair dryer – accidentally on purpose of course, so I can get the ghd Aura.
The ghd Platinum Styler is available at Selfridges for £165.
