Without realising it, I have fallen head over heels for Fenty Beauty. It all started with a highlighter and now I seem to be fully kitted up and ready to collect the final few pieces to complete a full collection. Fenty Beauty launched in November of last year and already has reached heights of fabulosity with its inclusivity for women of colour with a 40 strong shade range. The Pro Filt’r foundation not only has shades for everyone but has one of the most beautiful formulations. A full coverage foundation, with a soft matte finish that stays on all day, even without the help of the Soft Filt’r primer. I am wearing this more than any other foundation at the moment and I love the flawless, soft focus finish that it gives to my skin.
After having a makeover at Harvey Nichols Manchester, I sat with Djema, who painted my face for the gods. Using Pro Filt’r in 240 as my base, I wanted to see more of how the Match Stix could work on my skin to sculpt and define. I also wanted to see which shades would be the most beneficial for me. As I already own the French Vanilla Match Stix which I use as an under eye brightener, I do find that the colour sometimes looks a little chalky. Djema tried the Match Stix Trio in Medium and the shades are very complementary for my skin tone. For the brightening shade, Bamboo is a neutral shade which is more in line with the concealer shades I use for my under eyes. Mocha, a cool toned contour shade is another perfect shade for my skintone. Not too dark, it doesn’t make me look muddy and it gives a cast of shadow that doesn’t look unnatural. The shimmer Match Stix within the Match Stix trio is Trippin’, a gold glazed apricot shade that is to die for. With the shimmer Match Stix, they also double up as great eye shadows so I’m pleased I have several that can be used for different areas of the face.
A custom made blush was made using a mixture of matte Match Stix in Suede and shimmer Match Stix in Ridiic, and the outcome is a deep flush of warm coral that reminds me of NARS Torrid but with a deeper, more sunkissed coral. It’s going to be perfect for my holidays. We also tried a tiny amount of Shimmer Match Stix in Confetti for my highlight and I think that this shade is quite possibly the most beautiful, and so very me, highlight shade. I can’t wait to layer it with Unicorn for a dazzling, glitter sheen.
Layering up the Match Stix with the Pro Filt’r foundation has shown me that all of these layers still feel as light as air on my face. I don’t feel caked in makeup and although essentially I am, ultimately the finish is still natural. With this lightness in mind, I have packed every single item into my holiday makeup bag and I can see that this will be ideal for hot climates. I may have to go and get myself a Body Lava before I go because Body Lave plus tan equals heaven!
Also in my makeup bag, I’ve added three of the Fenty Beauty Matte-moiselle Lipsticks. These slim lippies are deceiving. They don’t look much, but my god, they certainly pack a punch in pigment and staying power. I swatched these on my arms and stained like you would not believe. There are 14 shades in total, and I have four of them. At £16 each, they are cheaper than MAC, and the formulation of the mattes is superb. They are so creamy and comfortable, I don’t get the dry puckered up lip that I do with some other mattes and again, they last for hours. The pigmentation is insane and the colour intensity on the lip is stronger than in the tube. I’ve been pleasantly surprised by how amazing the shades look.
Up 2 No Good is a nude peach that does slightly clash with my skintone, but a lip liner could make it look so much different. I love the colour and even when lightly patted onto the lips, it’s still vibrant. A peachy perfect summer shade.
Spanked is a dusty rose and is my absolute favourite of the four. It’s such an Anoushka lipstick, and I can get so much wear from it. They do apply really well from the tube, but with the intensity of the shades, I would define the lip a little more in usual practice just to distract from my uneven lip line.
I wasn’t sure on Freckled Fiesta at first, but the spiced terracotta shade has really grown on me. I love how each shade in the range has been designed to work on every skintone, and whilst this is a shade that I wouldn’t usually go for, and in fact, I don’t own a shade like this, I really like how it looks.
The fourth shade I have is Griselda and my gosh, this is the only one of the four that I had real difficulty with. As it’s such a deep and bold burgundy, it makes it difficult to apply on me. I do struggle with dark lips, and I think they heighten my wonky lip line rather than flatter it. I have applied it straight from the tube, but I think that a lip brush and maybe patting it on in future will be more beneficial to get the most out of it.
I’m so pleased that my makeup brand of choice for my holiday is Fenty Beauty. A high performing, long lasting and great coverage selection of products that will make me look like a bronzed, glowing goddess. I hope!
