Birchbox have released not one, but two brand new, in house beauty brands in as many weeks and the first brand is Love of Colour, or LOC as it’s affectionately know. LOC by Birchbox is a curated collection of vibrant shades and products, in the cutest handbag sized pencils at a budget price. The collection stands at just six products so far, with three Vibrant Matte Lipsticks and three One and Done Shadow sticks. I’ve been lucky enough to get my hands on five of the products from the collection and I have been trying them out so I can bring you a review. I have fallen in love with one particular shade, and I wonder if you can guess which one it is?
The One and Done Shadow Sticks are available in three shades; Perfect Cents, Champagne Problems and Empress Me. I have Champagne Problems, a silvery mink shade and Perfect Cents, a golden bronze. My first impressions of the One and Done Shadow Sticks are that they remind me of the Bobbi Brown Longwear Cream Shadow Sticks, but at a fraction of the price. Easy to apply, and no need for brushes or make up tools to create a wash a colour on the lid, they dry to a shimmery, budge proof finish. Although 11 wears is advertised, if you get wet lids like myself after a day at work, then you’ll only get around 8 hours of wear before creasing however the colour and the shimmer stay put all day. You do need to be quick when working with the shadow sticks, they dry so quickly that you need to blend out as soon as possible. They also look amazing when used as an eyeliner, with an even more intense colour if layered over black eye liner. I’ve been very impressed with the shadow sticks, even more so when I found out that they are paraben and cruelty free.
For a lipstick addict like myself, I am always on the lookout for new shades and new lipsticks to try out. The LOC Vibrant Matte Lipsticks come in three shades; Skinny Dip, Uncorked and Trouble. For me Skinny Dip was a tad pale and almost didn’t show up on my lips when I tried it out. Due to the lightness of the colour, I also felt it looked chalky instead of matte on my lips. When I applied Trouble and Uncorked, I knew we were onto a winner. The formula is so creamy and moisturising for a matte lipstick and they glided on the lips with ease. With the lipsticks being in a thinner more pencil like form, application especially around the cupids bow is delightfully easily and covering is so opaque with one swipe. I was so impressed. I applied Trouble first and loved how the strawberry red looked. Like the shadow sticks, they set quite quickly making them totally smudge and budgeproof and I did have some trouble removing Trouble to prepare my lips for Uncorked. Uncorked is a deep berry shade and from the second I applied this, I fell in love with the shade. As I don’t tend to wear such a dark lip, I often struggle in finding a shade that suits and Uncorked fits the bill perfectly. I love it!
