It was only a matter of time before I succumbed to the hype of the Kylie Lip Kits. Probably one of the biggest beauty launches known to man, from the family that have put their name on just about everything. Now, Kylie is a Jenner and not Kardashian, and her rise to super fame has been phenomenal. She made the world aware of Velvet Teddy lipstick and Soar lip liner, and her plumped up lips caused such a stir when she finally admitted she had had fillers. No sh!t sherlock! Since the back end of 2014, the world and it’s wife has been over drawing their lips and aiming for that Kylie Jenner pout. It was no surprise that Kylie was going to release her own range of cosmetics, but what did surprise me was the sheer volume of people rushing to buy them. Although I put three shades in my basket, I only managed to purchase one as they had ran out of stock before I had check out my basket online. As annoying as this was, I did get the one I wanted the most; the Kylie Lip Kit in Posie K
Lets talk money first and what you are paying for. The Lip Kits retail for $29, which is approximately £21 give or take. I don’t think this is an unreasonable price at all, especially as the Lip Kits contain a lip pencil and the liquid lipstick. For comparison, the Anastasia Beverly Hills Liquid Lipsticks retail at $20, and if you were to buy a lip pencil and liquid lipstick from MAC, you’d be looking at spending $37. Shipping to the UK from the USA is a flat rate of $14.95, so if you have several shades ordered, you’d only pay one rate for shipping. What isn’t included is the customs charges. Luckily, I didn’t get a customs charge on my order, yet I’m aware of others who have ordered one lip kit and had to pay £12 customs charges which massively increases the cost for just one lip kit. That being said, to send it to my address in the USA, I’d have to pay a holding charge which could cost almost as much as it being sent to the UK. Swings and roundabouts. I’ll update you on customs charges when my next parcel of three products turns up.
So, when my box arrived, it was quite clear where it was from. Look at the dripping lipstick running down the side of the box. In anticipation, I opened the box and I was so happy when I saw the colour of my Posie K. I’d mentioned on Snapchat how I had bought three liquid lipsticks all in similar shades and the look of Posie K in the tube makes it look really pale. Posie K is actually a deep orchid shade that does look pale in the tube but when swatched and applied it’s a lot darker than it looks.
The packaging is beautiful, and to be honest I wouldn’t expect anything less. Each box is colour coded down the side, so it’s worth keeping hold of each box if you’re an organisational freak like myself. The lip pencil is very reminiscent of a MAC pencil, with a secure lid that clicks on firmly, meaning no lost lids in your handbag. The tube of Posie K is decorated with Kylie’s signature and the dripping lipstick marks, just like the box and the logo. The first time I tried Posie K, I was really surprised at just how thin the formula is. I’ve been used to wearing the Anastasia ones and the difference in formula is very apparent. I found that the thinness of the formula meant that the application was a lot easier and that I didn’t get any streaks when applying, and that it dried really quickly. One coat is enough to create an opaque finish and less is more when applying Posie K. Longevity is amazing, and stands at around 8 hours with minimal loss when eating and drinking. I do need an oil based remover to get rid of all traces of the Kylie Lip Kit, as it really does adhere to the skin.
I do really want a lot more of the shades in the Kylie Lip Kit range but I am going to hold off for the time being, just whilst I have other lipsticks similar in colour. I’ve totally fallen for liquid lipsticks and love the matte finish, even if the can be quite drying. Next on the list is Kourt K, and Koko K but in the meantime I am patiently waiting for my three Kylie Cosmetic Lip Glosses in Like, Literally and So Cute.
Have you managed to get your hands on a Kylie Lip Kit? What do you think?
