Stop the press! I have found the most incredible curling wand and to say that I am impressed is an understatement. Can we just take a moment to let this sink in…. these curls lasted me for 7 days. 7 days, 90% dry shampoo and 10% sheer wondering how on earth this has managed to happen. My hair type isn’t anything special. It’s fine but with a lot of it. A virgin root but processed ends and a very minimal time spent using heat products on it. I love curling my hair and I think that curls can change a look up so much. I feel girly and pretty with curly hair, and then when it’s brushed out into old Hollywood waves, I feel sophisticated and grown up. One curling wand, several different looks. Cloud Nine The Curling Wand is a total game changer.
Tech specs first, the wand is a standard 25mm barrel, without the traditional clip to hold hair. Instead, it’s a case of a steady hand and wearing a heat proof glove to protect your hands when curling. The wand has a temperature control panel, with high, medium and low. I used the wand on high which does get very hot. The barrel is sleek and smooth, which means its easy to guide hair around it without any snags or issues. Like the old style ghd’s, The Curling Wand has a European plug inside the UK plug, which makes it very handy for travelling alongside the International voltage. I’ll be taking mine on holiday with me for sure!
I curled my hair in layers from the bottom to the top, using inch wide sections. Usually I would alternate which way I turned each curl for more depth and definition, however as I had plans to brush it through later, I kept them flowing the same way. I held in curl in place on the barrel for 30 seconds or so before letting them drop and moving on to the next section of hair.
After my hair was completely cooled, I used my fingers to break up the curls and open them up by using a backcomb technique up the hair but with my fingers. It just gives that extra oomph and volume. Finally, I spritzed with a fine hairspray to hold everything in place.
Waking up the day after, my hair was still intact with the curls. They had a lot of definition despite sleeping on them, and I was able to use a comb to tidy up my hair without brushing through. By day 3, I had started to brush through to create waves and use dry shampoo to add volume to the root. On day 7 when my hair was going to be washed, every wave across my head was still intact and looked as good as the day that I did it. I’m super impressed.
It’s not very often that I am blown away by a hair product, but The Curling Wand from Cloud Nine has surpassed every expectation that I had for a high end hair tool. I’m now really curious to see how the straighteners are compared to ghds, and I really want to have a go at using The O heated rollers.
