Over the last year or so, I have really fallen into the habit of using a lip liner when I wear a bold lipstick. I’ve started to build up quite a collection of lip liners but there are a few of my super bold colours that I struggled matching up with a liner and had to make do with applying with a lip brush for definition. Not only have I struggled with matching some colours to liners, I have also struggled getting hold of cult favourite colours like MAC Whirl and Soar because of this blasted Kylie Jenner effect. Thankfully, MAC have just released their newest collection; Pencilled In. 11 brand new pencils, and all except one are going into the permanent range. There are matches for colours like Impassioned and Girl About Town, as well as re-promotes of previous limited editions; Ruby Woo and Heroine. Heroine is the only shade not to be made permanent, so if you need it then grab it as soon as you can. I’ve had a little lip liner haul lately with one of the colours being Candy Yum Yum.
Candy Yum Yum lip liner is a bright neon pink and a perfect match to the lipstick. I’ve had Candy Yum Yum in my collection since it was first released in the Quite Cute Collection back in 2011. Candy Yum Yum is one of the brightest, most vibrant colours that I think MAC have ever produced. Its very in your face and the cool blue tones of the lipstick make the neon pink even brighter. Candy Yum Yum is a matte finish but the formula is quite creamy and doesn’t drag or pull like Ruby Woo. Wear time is an incredible 6 hours without budging but it does have a tendency to dry out on the lip and cling to any dry patches. I love how it doesn’t look quite matte when first applied yet settles down into a lovely smooth finish.
The Candy Yum Yum lip liner is an exact match for the lipstick, so much so that you can’t actually tell that you are wearing a liner. It gives the impression of defined lips that you simply can’t achieve by applying the lipstick directly from the bullet. I do find the MAC lip liners slightly drying and sometimes quite stiff to apply so they do need a warm up by rolling the pencil in between my hands before application.
Candy Yum Yum lip liner is now part of the permanent collection alongside its matching lipstick, priced at £12.50 and £15.50 respectively. Which lip liners from the Pencilled In collection will you be picking up?
