Over the last three months, I have stepped aside from wearing acrylic nails and I have been embracing the natural nail. It’s actually quite amazing the change in my natural nails especially after getting my first set of acrylics at 15. That’s nearly 20 years of wearing them. *Gasp*. I knew my nails would be paper thin at first, but with a nail routine using some Leighton Denny products which I will introduce you to at a later date, they have finally started to look and behave like real nails. To keep them protected, I do like to get a gel manicure and there are now so many brands who have started to make it easier for us gals on the go to be able to do our own long lasting polish at home. Introducing Candy Coat into my life has made my nails the happiest that they have been in a long time. A cutesy online brand that is now found in salons, and they do a subscription box. I am obsessed.
My first Candy Coat subscription box arrived on my doorstep covered in glitter. I knew at that point that we were about to embark on a long lasting relationship. A box decorated with a candy sprinkled, ice cream design that opened up to reveal sparkly shredded paper, glitter love heart confetti, sweeties and my Candy Coat goodies. The Candy Coat subscription box will contain three colours, as well as swatch pops so you can try them out before putting them on your nails, mani essentials, candy and a goodie of the month. The colours are all the new shades that are exclusive to the box before they hit the pick + mix selection of the website. My box was a PR sample, and does contain a few extras for me to try out, so please do bear that in mind.
Inside my Candy Coat box, I received three butterfly swatch rings, two nail colours and a glitter colour, and four Sugars, as well as a base coat and top coat and a glitter brush. There was also a 7 sided nail file and a rainbow glitter nail file. The polishes need to be cured so you do also need a UV or LED lamp, which I had from a previous gel nail set from Red Carpet Manicure.
The Strawberry Base Coat smells insane, and I cured it for one minute under my lamp. You do only need a very thin coat of this. I have the shades 022; a nude grey which only needs 2 coats at 2 minutes under the LED lamp, as well as C061; a blue shade that changes colour with warmth from a sky blue to a pastel blue. It’s very clever. The glitter polish 632 is a Holo Circle polish which looks great alone or over the top of a colour.
The Candy Coat Sugar in Ice is an intense silver sparkle that is easy to add to a tacky layer of polish before wiping away any excess and finishing with two coats of the Super Shiny No Wipe top coat. The other Sugar shades that I have are Cotton Candy Pink, Cotton Candy Unicorn Dust and Vanilla.
My favourite combination is 022, with my ring finger topped with Cotton Candy Unicorn Dust. I have had so many people ask what I have had on my nails. My manicure is lasting around 10 days which is just amazing for my nails and when I remove my polish, my nails feel nourished and not at all dry.I have never really been able to do glitters and nail toppings, but it’s been surprisingly easy to create a salon mani at home, that lasts so long.
I’m so impressed with my Candy Coat box that I will be subscribing to the next box and getting stocked up on some new shades and glitters. I’ve never really been a fan of doing my own nails, but now I can do them properly, I’m really enjoying the freedom of being able to create super cute glittery nails in less than half an hour. Fabulous!
