Brand Focus – Merumaya

As soon as I feel like I have got back on top of my skincare and started using all that I had, I remember that I have another few products stashed away. I literally am swimming in skincare. I like to really try out a brand by trying them out for several weeks and as I have had to totally strip away my acids and more intensive products, it’s been great to start using them again. I did speak about some of skincare favourites, and how I’ve been slowly and carefully increasing the concentrations of vitamins and acids. One brand that I truly adore and have been totally rubbish at getting the information out to you is Merumaya. Not only does it have a lovely story behind it, but it makes some incredible products that I have loved since the first use.

Rather than me reliving the story behind the launch of the brand, I do urge you to have a read of Maleka’s story. It’s very heart warming and proof that the Happily Ever After does exist and you can work towards making your dreams come true. Maleka’s philosophy behind Merumaya is to help women have confidence in their skin, and that beauty has no age. Confident and striving for equality, we can pay it forward with a compliment and support others. A truly beautiful mentality and one that personally has taken me a long time to grasp.

Merumaya Iconic Youth Serum

I’ve been using four products from the Merumaya range and with the exception of the serum, they are all slightly more intensive in terms of containing active ingredients. Starting off with one of my all time favourite products, and there is literally a smidgen of this left in the tube, the Merumaya Iconic Youth Serum has been part of my skincare faves for couple of years now. I have had numerous sample sizes of this before I got the full size and I’m going to have to get another very soon. The serum is unlike other serums in consistency with it being more of a gel like cream than a water based liquid. As soon as the serum hits your skin, you can feel it sink it immediately whilst the silken formula makes my skin feel the smoothest it’s ever been. I personally like to use this prior to make up application as it helps my foundation glide on and stay on. It plumps and hydrates and evens out skin tone and leaves a radiance that looks so healthy. It’s an absolute hero product and a definite recommendation from me.

When it comes to exfoliating toners, I always fall back to the Clarins Gentle Exfoliating Toner as well as Pixi Glow Tonic. I love the addition of an AHA in my skincare routine to help take away dead skin cells. It’s a very good ingredient for me, as it doesn’t have any kind of adverse reaction, or leaves me with redness. I have been using the Merumaya Gentle Exfoliating Toner whilst my Clarins has ran out, and to be quite honest, I’m not sure that I will be rushing out to buy Clarins whilst I have this. It’s so gentle that I can use it several times a week and I’ve found that it helps control the oil on my skin. It’s a perfect pairing with the Iconic Youth Serum and I find that just those two are just enough for an evening skin routine most nights.

Merumaya Lip Line Repair Treatment

Although I have had experience with Retinol products, I have kind of avoided them as they do strip your skin back so much so that extra care must be taken with wearing SPF. Wearing SPF isn’t a problem, but the fact that I was in so many different destinations with work, with very hot temperatures, I was always worried about my skin. Since being at home, it’s enabled me to try new products so I have been really excited to try the Merumaya Retinol Resurfacing Treatment. Gentle yet effective, I’ve found that using this cream compared to using retinol in serum form has been a totally different experience. I did see some after effects of dryness and redness after the first couple of uses, but after persevering, that settled down. I don’t think it’s to do with the product itself, but more so of having an different product added into my very basic routine. Retinol isn’t a product that I use all the time and it’s one that I do forget about as my skin is in such good condition right now but I do like to use it at nighttime every now and again.

A product that I have loved and think has been one of the best things that has happened to my face is the Merumaya Lip Line Restoration Treatment. I have the worst dry lips, and there is nothing that will sort them out. I could scrub them daily and apply liberal amounts of balm, salve or ointment and the following day they will still be suffering with dry and flaky skin. The Lip Line Restoration Treatment is designed to tighten and smooth the lip line, making it more effective when wearing lipstick so lips don’t bleed. I don’t really have that issue so I can’t really pass comment on if it has helped, but I have noticed the biggest difference in how my lips feel and look. The dry skin still turns up but it’s a lot less and only in the centre of my lips now. I also feel like my lips have been plumped up yet don’t feel like they’re covered in a wet, slippy balm. It’s quite honestly been my best find of this year and I think I need to stock up. Oh, when that day comes that my lips do not have any dry patches at all will be the best day.

If you want to try a brand that has a beautiful story to it, with products that work and are made in Britain, I think Merumaya would be right up your street. Please do check it out, and let me know what has caught your eye.
