Yay, its another post on my favourite subject today. More lipsticks! After my five favourite Berry lips on Tuesday, I couldn’t resist doing five of my favourite Christmas red lipsticks. I love a red lip, and as I was searching through my collection, I was actually surprised about how many I had and I also found some colours that I haven’t worn in ages. So, Brucey Bonus for me for writing this post! Red is the colour of the season so I’ve mixed up some high end, some mid range and of course, some fab drugstore lipsticks for your perusal. Enjoy!
Starting with the high end and the most eye wateringly expensive lipstick, it’s the Tom Ford Lip Colour in Cherry Lush. My first ever Tom Ford lipstick that my Mommy bought for me last Christmas. The colour is a blue toned red with a hint of shimmer that reflects the light so subtly. I’ll be wearing this on Christmas Day as it matches my new skirt beautifully.
More of a tomato red colour is the Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet in Hot Pepper. I am really loving the formula of these lip lacquers. Although they are matte, they aren’t drying or cause discomfort and the colour lasts for such a long time. I have a handful of these including Olé Flamingo and Happy Nude Year. At first, I wasn’t sold on these but now I will rave about them until the cows come home.
The majority of posts that I have seen about red lipsticks have included the iconic MAC Ruby Woo. It’s a great lipstick shade but it is the dryest, most uncomfortable lipstick that I own. I have always suffered from dry lips so as soon as they start to dry, it cracks and pulls. When MAC released the Retro Matte shades, and in particular RiRi Woo from her initial collection I was over the moon. The Retro Matte formula is so much better than the original Matte. Its a lot more creamier but still with that great matte finish, that barely transfers onto paper. Unfortunately RiRi Woo isn’t available but the Retro Matte collection has many great shades.
At the beginning of the year, Revlon introduced the ColorBurst Balms which were available in a large range of colours in lacquer and matte finishes. I went a tad crazy over these as I found them to be pretty spectacular in performance when I wore them for work. They help keep my dry lips moisturised, they stay on for a surprising length of time considering they are a balm and the colour range is really good. Out of the 20 shades available, I think I own half of them. Provocateur is a bright cherry red with glittery particles within it and had a wonderful peppermint taste. The lacquer gives a high shine finish and it keeps my lips moisturised for hours.
When L’Oreal launched the Exclusive Nudes, I was so excited thinking that I would maybe able to find a nude lipstick that actually suited me. It wasn’t meant to be and all the colours that I tried didn’t suit or were way too pale. Cheryl’s Nude didn’t even show up on my lips. However when the Exclusive Reds were released I spotted a colour that was just right. Warm, blue toned red with a matte finish that was creamy and easy to apply as well as wear. The L’Oreal Paris Color Riche Blake’s Red has been worn so many times as of late and I love it. It’s also a pretty good dupe in colour for the Tom Ford Cherry Lush, but with a different finish.
