A make up addict like myself loves the run up to Christmas, especially when my favourite brands release their Christmas collections. Yesterday I spoke about the beautiful Too Faced La Grande Palais and how I have set myself a limit of two Holiday palettes a year. It’s a tough choice and I was debating whether to get the Hourglass Holiday Palette or the limited edition NARS Steven Klein palette. Good sales technique from the lady in Sephora made sure that I picked up the NARS, and I’m really glad that I did. Not only is it incredibly beautiful but it is a really versatile palette and one that fits perfectly inside my make up bag for through the day make up top up.
The last NARS palette that I bought was the NARS Guy Bourdin blush palette and I’ve really got my money’s worth out of it with the four blush shades, bronzer and highlighter shade. The Steven Klein palette is an updated version of the Guy Bourdin but in my opinion, a better lay out of shades and the sizes. Steven Klein is a New York photographer who’s collaboration with François Nars has brought together drag queens, top models and the hoi polloi of NYC to create a collection of images of fantasy, drama and total provocation. The entire Steven Klein range is just gorgeous, with striking tones and colours and some of the most gorgeous palettes and coffrets that I have seen this side of Christmas.
One of the main reasons why I am absolutely loving this palette is down to the shades that are inside. We see the addition of Laguna, which of course is one of the most famous shades of bronzer and one that I have been using for several years. A golden bronze shimmer which is sheer enough for a light dusting of colour and can be built up to a deep bronze depending on how tanned you want to look. The pan of Laguna weighs in at 8.5g, which is 4g larger than the other shades within the palette.
With the rise of the contouring trend, it was only natural that a contour and highlight duo was to be in the palette. Paloma is a milky, pink beige matte highlight shade that contains no shimmer. It’s a great powder for adding light without looking like a glitterball, and it can be used to create a Kim Kardashian style contour. I prefer using a lighter matte shade for contouring then adding an illuminator to the high points of my face using something like Anastasia Beverly Hills Peach Nectar. The contour shade is a deep rosey brown, warm in tone and with a matte finish. I find with NARS that their contour imagery is very sharp, heavily defined contour and highlight so a gentle hand and fluffy contour brush can give a much more natural finish.
It was the blush colours that originally drew me to the palette as they are all so different from ones that I have in my collection. I was particularly drawn to the third shade along which is like a cross between Orgasm and my absolute favourite NARS Blush – Torrid. I’m so pleased to see a palette that doesn’t include the Orgasm blush so I can actually get to try more colours in the line.
Robotic is a limited edition shade and a palette exclusive. The light pink shade has quite cool tones with a very subtle shimmer and semi matte finish. I haven’t worn this shade aside from swatching it, only due to my skin being quite warm toned right now.
Blasphemy is another exclusive shade, and it’s such a pretty rosy pink shade. It gives the ‘just come in out of the cold’ kind of pink flush which I think is so apt for this time of year.
I’ve been wearing Luster a lot since I have had my palette and thankfully, its a permanent shade from the range. If Orgasm and Torrid had a little baby blusher, then this would be the colour. It’s a medium, gold shimmery orange toned shade with warm undertones and I have been wearing this with the addition of Anastasia Peach Nectar and it’s total love.
Finally, one of my long standing NARS blushers has been added to a palette so I can take it around with me. Dolce Vita is a plum blusher with gold shimmer that it perfect for the winter season. I love a berry shade, especially when teamed with a berry lip and I think that Dolce Vita is one of the most flattering shades around.
I’ve been having a hunt around for stock for you so you can treat yourself to this beautiful piece of cosmetic heaven and I’ve found it in stock in Space NK for £45. Off you run girls, you need it!
