Blogmas 2015 Day 20: Winter Skincare Saviours

Well, I’m not sure about you but my skin has been driving my crackers since it’s started to get really cold. I’ve been feeling like an exfoliate is necessary more than a few times a week, I need oil and then more oil to help with the dehydration and I’m upping the anti with hydrating and energizing products. It’s not helping that I’m spending time flitting back and worth to hot climes, and spending hours in a dry air conditioned space so I’m really focusing on what my skin needs right now. I’ve put together a few new products in with some old faithful bits to create a winter skincare routine that’s doing wonders for my skin right now.

I’ve been using the Origins Original Skin Clay Mask since it’s launch back in early summer and it’s been so good on my skin. I use it twice weekly as standard and maybe a third time for an extra pick me up. Over the last few months of use, I’ve found that my pores look a lot smaller, which is a massive concern for me and my skin feels fresh and so smooth. Not only is the rose pink colour of the clay so pretty, it smells gorgeous. It’s packed full of Canadian Willowherb, Mediterranean Rose Clay and exfoliating jojoba beads and it’s bringing everything to the surface to leave my skin clear. I’m a huge fan of this and I’m so glad that I started to look into the properties of clay masks again, as with previous experience I had some stinging and redness, yet the Origins mask tones down any kind of redness and is mild on my skin.

I can’t go a day without using a toner, and I feel such a difference if I’ve ever skipped it from my routine. I’ve been delving more into the independent brand Chidem Beauty, and after falling in love with the Moisture Therapy Cleansing Beauty Balm, which sadly I’ve used up, I have decided to try the Beauty of Youth Energizing Firming Toner. Each Chidem product is handmade locally to myself and has gone from strength to strength since I first discovered the brand last winter. The toner reduces redness, which is ideal for straight after a clay mask, although my redness has rarely appeared and it fills skin with moisture so it immediately looks plumped up. The toner stimulates the production of collagen and elastin so it’s suitable for my early 30’s skin, and as it is 100% pure, it really does give maximum benefits once applied. Rose petal, Frankincense and aloe vera tone the skin whilst Ginseng and Pomegranate leave a radiant looking skin tone.

After toning, the next step is to apply a good serum that will boost hydration as well as help fight signs of ageing. I started using the Merumaya Iconic Youth Skin Serum after I received a travel size bottle and I was blown away by just how it made my skin feel. It was inevitable that a full sized bottle was going to necessary in my life. The Iconic Youth Serum works to improve lines and wrinkles, hydration and elastin whilst leaving skin looking fresh and radiant. After I have applied the serum, I sometimes don’t need to follow up with any other product as my skin looks amazing. Echium Oil soothes sensitive skin and as it is a source of Omega 3, 6 and 9 it has anti inflammatory properties so blemishes are reduced and diminished before your eyes. With the travel size, I have been using it whilst away with the Merumaya Melting Cleansing Balm and Youth Preservative Moisturiser and they work so well, hand in hand.

If I feel that I need a moisturiser straight after my serum, I’ve been reaching for my Claudia Louch Hydrating Mango Face Cream. Again, a new-ish brand to me but one that has really made me want to try more. Although it is quite pricey, the natural, hypo-allergenic and non comedogenic skincare is worth it. The Mango face cream smells good enough to eat and looks amazing in its luxurious packaging. Packed full of hyaluronic acid, it also contains olive, almond, avocado, sunflower and grape seed oils to intensely hydrate skin. I use it twice a day and when I use it in the morning it doesn’t leave my skin feeling greasy or slippy, so make up application isn’t an issue, whilst at night, I like to pack on a lot so it almost feels like a mask and leave it to soak in overnight. I wake up looking refreshed and with bright glowing skin.

I am an absolute convert to the use of facial oils and after a Clarins consulation it was decided that my skin would benefit from the treatment of the Clarins Blue Orchid Facial Oil. Suitable for dry and dehydrated skin, I use this when I have been flying to put moisture back into my parched skin. Since using the Clarins, and this is now my second bottle, I have found that not only is it good for my face but I’ve been adding it into my hand cream and foot cream for an extra boost of hydration. For my face, the Blue Orchid facial oil also contains Rosewood and Patchouli to balance the skin with it’s aromatherapy principles and Hazelnut oil to prevent moisture loss. Again, it’s a brilliant product to pack on of an evening and wake up where your skin looks like it belongs to someone else. It’s definitely a night time product as oil and make up don’t mix particularly well but I look forward to the nights where I know I will be using it. As the scent is so calming and relaxing, it also helps me drift off into a deep sleep. Winner.

Do you have any fail safe items that you couldn’t love without? Have you tried any of the brands that I have mentioned today?
