I actually only bought this because it was called Unicorn. Well, I suppose it’s a good a reason as ever to add a totally ridiculous colour to my collection. The Anastasia Beverly Hills liquid lipsticks have become a major part of my beauty routine alongside cult favourite Dipbrow. With the colour range, longevity and ease of use, I’m slightly surprised that I only have three of them in my stash. I shall be rectifying this on my next visit to Macy’s with Sugar Plum, Blush and Pure Hollywood hitting the wish list. Anastasia Beverly Hills Liquid Lipstick in Unicorn is totally out of my comfort zone and quite possibly one of more unusual colours that I own but the more I wear it, the more I really like it.
Unicorn was released last summer alongside the shade Craft, a sparkly plum shade. I was in Miami with a ten dollars off Macy’s card when I spotted Unicorn and after swatching it on my hand, I thought it was gorgeous. Totally not my colour but I just remember that day that I had some seriously beautiful shades on my hands that all seemed to fall into cool toned pinks and bright emerald greens. What I was thinking, I do not know! Anyway, I’m digressing again.
Unicorn is a cool toned, candy lavender luminescent pastel shade with a smooth matte finish. For a warm toned person like myself, it’s very cool in contrast to my skin tone, and the lavender is quite pale against my tanned face. It’s a funny one really as everything about it says it shouldn’t work, but it does. I do find that to make it more wearable, I like to add it with another shade to warm it up or layer it with an Anastasia Beverly Hills gloss to give it a bit more depth.
The length of time that the liquid lipsticks last for is absolutely second to none. I’ve still yet to find another brand that equals this level. Sure, after a few hours your lips may resemble pickled walnuts but a good prep and prime before application helps a lot. I do tend to remove my liquid lipsticks with a wipe and reapply whilst I’m at work but only because I like a nice even finish and my lips get incredibly dried out in the air. I must also point out just how stubborn they are to remove. No wonder they last so long. A bit of baby oil helps massively when taking off the liquid lipsticks, as it doesn’t drag and pull against your lips.
What do you think of Unicorn? Would you wear it? Available in Macy’s for $20.
